The project includes the strengthening of the infrastructure related to the submarine energy cable and building transmission line between Montenegro and Serbia.

The project is worth EUR 127 million. Crnogorski elektroprenosni sistem, supported by the Government of Montenegro, provided loan funds from EBRD and KfW, and the agreement we sign today represents co-financing of these loan funds from the donation in the amount of WUR 25 million”, Minister Kavarić stated.

The Minister of Economy reminded that the project, for whose construction has been signed today the agreement on financing from donation, is of enormous significance for the energy sector and overall economy in Montenegro.

“The connection with Italy by submarine energy cable is per se Montenegro’s priority. It puts our country at the centre of energy flows in this part of the world and completely changes the vision of all the other neighbouring countries, giving them the ability to connect with Western Europe via Montenegro. But the cable with Italy shall have its full strength and purposefulness only if this project is implemented”, Kavarić concluded.

Head of Department of Cooperation of the EU delegation in Montenegro Andre Lys emphasized that improvement of connection within the Western Balkans, as well as this region with the European Union, is an important foundation for economic development and building of bridges between people and business. He stated that therefore EU put the issue of connection high on the list of priorities in the process of enlargement and allocated one billion euros for technical assistance and investment in projects from the agenda of connection by 2020.

Head of Department of Cooperation of the EU delegation in Montenegro Andre Lys emphasized that improvement of connection within the Western Balkans, as well as this region with the European Union, is an important foundation for economic development and building of bridges between people and business. This is a sign of our concrete support to Montenegro and the region. This project shall contribute to establishing a regional electricity market, which shall be connected with the European Union via the submarine cable between Italy and Montenegro. Thereby it will be furtherly contributed to better integration of the Montenegrin electric power system with the European energy market”, reminded Lys, underlining that the issue of connection is not related solely for expensive infrastructure projects.

“It is equally important that Western Balkans countries intensify efforts in implementation of reform measures with the aim of opening market and creating a transparent regulatory framework by which is built confidence of investors, and that countries in the region develop a mutual trust necessary for reconciliation, good neighbouring relationships and prosperity. This is the key for your journey towards membership in the European Union”, concluded Lys.

Member of the management board of the German Development Bank for Europe and Asia Roland Siller said that Trans-Balkan Electricity Corridor shall not only improve and stabilise supply with electricity in the concerned regions, but shall enable connection of markets, creating new business opportunities and generating revenue for Montenegro.

“In the end, but not less important, the Corridor shall represent an important milestone regarding integration of Montenegro in the European energy market”, said Siller, emphasizing that KfW shall remain a reliable financing partner for future projects.

He added that other projects in the transmission sector are already being prepared.

“Of course, in preparation are also other specific projects in the field of hydro energy, energy efficiency and distribution”, announced Siller and underlined that it is implied that “we are on your side as a leading financial institution also for some other EU infrastructure project you want to be co-financed by the Western Balkans Investment Framework”.

Executive Director of CGES Ivan Bulatović said that the Agreement on donation related to implementation of Trans-Balkan Electricity Corridor - Grid Section Montenegro, besides the global, political and economic significance, has a particular significance also for that company.

“We are proud that we have the opportunity to implement both our plans and plans defined by national and regional development documents through an institutional framework, which from the very beginning gave an additional impulse to development of our society and faster adoption of European standards and norms”, stated Bulatović.

He added that with this grant, the infrastructure project of connecting electric power systems of Montenegro and Italy, as CGES most important project, obtained yet another confirmation of its significance both in European and in regional frameworks.

“Primarily, through the fact that from these funds it will be financed also the construction of the overhead line “Pljevlja – Bajina Bašta“, which is directly related to the indicated project, but also to supporting investments in the Montenegrin electric power network connected with the aforementioned interconnections towards Italy and Serbia. It should not be specifically emphasized the importance of these investments for a stable and reliable operation of electric power system”, concluded Bulatović.

Agreement worth EUR 25 million was signed by the Minister Kavarić on behalf of the Ministry of Economy, Mr. Siller on behalf of the German Development Bank and Executive Director of CGES Mr. Ivan Bulatović.

["post-7619","vijest-i-dogadjaj","type-vijest-i-dogadjaj","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
