CGES and CZIP signed a Memorandum of Cooperation

Taking into consideration common interests in establishing close and continuing relationships, and recognizing the significance of environmental protection and wishing to jointly contribute to its improvement, Crnogorski elektroprenosni sistem and Center for Protection and Research of Birds signed a Memorandum of Cooperation today in Podgorica.

Having signed this document, CGES and CZIP undertook to jointly work on adjusting the electric transmission system of Montenegro to ecologically acceptable conditions in terms of bird nesting in the way that this electric power company will launch in the near future a project of setting up bird nest-boxes on transmission lines, where technically feasible. This is a new project of setting up artificial nests intended for endangered bird species, thereby having the opportunity to regenerate its population and increase in number.

Additionally, CGES is going to install visual bird deterrents and with due diligence take into consideration all CZIP’s recommendations on the vicinity of internationally significant bird habitats and migration flyways.

A huge number of artificial nests will be installed on the high-voltage transmission towers, whereby CGES dealing with electricity transmission would have a special role and responsibility for protection of nature.memorandum
