The Centre for the Protection and Study of Birds (CZIP) will traditionally mark European Birdwatching Week on the first weekend of October 2015. Millions of migratory birds are leaving Europe at this time and flying towards their wintering grounds in Africa.

For migratory bird species, the existence of sustainable breeding areas in the north, the conservation of stopover sites, as well as safety on the migratory route and suitable habitats in wintering areas are of vital importance. The aim of European Birdwatching Day 2015 is to raise awareness of the wonder of bird migration and the need to protect birds in the Mediterranean on their journey to Africa.

This year's European Birdwatching Weekend in Montenegro will be dedicated to ringing, which is being carried out for the first time this year in an organised manner in our country.

This event was supported by the Montenegrin Transmission System Operator (CGES). Specifically, in accordance with the Memorandum of Cooperation between CZIP and CGES, which concerns work on environmentally acceptable conditions for the nesting of certain species, this electric power company has donated 30 falcon nesting boxes, which will be installed on the pylons of high-voltage power lines, the selection of which was approached with great care. Following final preparation, in which the pupils of the ecology section of the "Radojica Perović" from Podgorica, will be installed on pylons of high-voltage power lines, the selection of which was approached with great care. Consequently, a large number of artificial nests will be placed on the pylons, which will be installed in phases.

This is a new and unique project in Montenegro, initiated by the Montenegrin Transmission System Operator, through which the company will assume a special role and responsibility in the protection and preservation of nature.

Given that the boxes are planned to be placed far from cliffs and the traditional nesting sites of these birds, we expect all species of falcon, as well as some species of owl, to nest in Montenegro.

The celebration of European Birdwatching Day, and the preparation of nesting boxes for falcons, will be organised on 3 October 2015 in Mareza, starting at 9 a.m.
