European Birdwatching Weekend marked at Cemovsko Field

For the second year running, the Montenegrin Electricity Transmission System (CGES) and the Centre for the Protection and Study of Birds (CZIP) are continuing their successful collaboration to adapt the electricity transmission system to environmentally friendly conditions for nesting birds, particularly endangered birds of prey.
The adaptation of the electricity transmission system began after the signing of the memorandum of cooperation, with the installation of 30 nesting boxes for the grey falcon (Falcon peregrine) on the pylons of high-voltage power lines, where such an operation was technically feasible.
Specially designed and constructed boxes have been placed away from cliffs and traditional nesting sites for this species. The same practice will be applied this year, with the planned installation of an additional 20 boxes, which will aid the recovery of the populations of all falcon species in Montenegro, as well as some species of owls. The start of monitoring the breeding success on the previously installed boxes is also planned.
The installation of the new bird boxes is planned for the first weekend of October, when the European Birdwatching Week is celebrated, as millions of migratory birds leave Europe and fly towards their wintering grounds in Africa. For migratory bird species, the existence of sustainable breeding areas in the north, the conservation of stopovers, as well as safety on the migratory route and suitable habitats in the wintering areas are of vital importance.
