The author's work Stevan Čanović i Alekse Knežević's, a young engineer from CGES, drew the attendees' attention, focusing on the application of the device for the controlled switching of power switches and all its benefits. Indeed, in the author's opinion, the application of such a device would significantly reduce the stress on power switches and thereby greatly extend their service life, which is of great importance for the operation of the electricity system as a whole. The paper, as we have emphasised, aimed to demonstrate the benefits of a device for the controlled make/break of power switches, which has been significantly achieved.
This is not the only benefit of the device, the authors point out. "In addition to extending the service life of the power switch, the service life of the equipment in the associated switchyard is also significantly extended, which includes the most significant elements of power transformers, particularly large units, as well as so-called shunt reactors," the authors pointed out. They added that the paper is intended as an introduction to further development of the topic and a more in-depth analysis, given that the need for the installation of a variable shunt reactor has been recognised within the Montenegrin transmission system, as provided for in the development plans.
