Representatives of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts (CANU), the Montenegrin Transmission System Operator (CGES), the Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG) and the Montenegrin Distribution System Operator (CEDIS), They signed a Memorandum of Cooperation today with the aim of improving the efficiency of the electricity system and applying artificial intelligence in the electricity sector.

The memorandum provides for CANU and energy companies to work together on scientific research and development projects in the field of energy, through collaboration with the ENEKO Centre, as a special scientific research unit of CANU. Furthermore, the memorandum provides for the organisation of joint scientific conferences, round tables and expert discussions in the field of electricity, the publication of papers, as well as cooperation on other matters of mutual interest.

President of CANU, Academician Dragan K. Vukčević He said that it is necessary for institutions to network and cooperate with each other.

"The future of development lies in that synergy. Within CANU, there is the ENEKO centre, which we established some time ago, but which hasn't been very active. It was set up as a centre for energy, ecology and sustainable development. I am pleased that the members of the academy – Vice President Stanković and academician Đurović – have initiated the revival of this centre and cooperation with energy companies," Vukčević stated.

He considers it a significant step in networking institutions in Montenegro.

"I hope that based on the Memorandum we have signed today, we will have round tables, scientific conferences, public forums and joint projects. I believe this can be beneficial for you and for our institution," said Vukčević.

Executive Director of CGES - Ivan Asanović He said that it was a great pleasure for him that the ENEKO centre would be reactivated for joint work on development projects, and expressed his great satisfaction with the initiative launched by the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts.

"I agree that energy is one of the most important economic sectors in Montenegro. This is proven by the results achieved in the energy sector every year. We consider this level of cooperation with CANU to be very significant from several aspects – professional, technical, and also promotional, so that the projects we are implementing can finally be presented to the public in the right way," stated Asanović.

He emphasised that one of CGES's missions is to develop projects in accordance with the most up-to-date principles of environmental protection and ecology, stating that sustainable development is the foundation of every development and infrastructure project for the company.

President of the EPCG Board of Directors, Milutin Đukanović He considered the CANU initiative to be significant by signing the Memorandum.

"I feel that you have recognised the importance of the energy sector. I don't want to be subjective, but this sector is the most important to us. That is why this cooperation, coming from such a significant source, encourages us to continue working on the projects we have started," said Đukanović.

He reminded that during the meeting of energy ministers in the Berlin Process, three things were noted which are not good for the countries of the region.

"Firstly, the legislation is poor. Secondly, the public registers are disorganised, and thirdly, there is a lack of professional personnel. This is the problem we are facing and we expect CANU to help us, and EPCG will be completely open to cooperation," said Đukanović.

Executive Director of CEDIS, Vladimir Čađenović He pointed out that The energy companies are in dire need of science in their work.

"We saw at the previous meeting that there is a broad scope for our cooperation, that we need each other, and that we will do so for the benefit of the state and society. I expect this document to bear its fruits in the shortest possible time, which we must harvest together," stated Čađenović.
