The Centre for the Protection and Study of Birds, in cooperation with the Montenegrin Transmission System Operator, organised the first 'Night of the Owls' in Podgorica, with the aim of surveying the young of the Short-toed Snake Eagle,Asio otusMore than 50 participants, including our company's employees, counted 48 chicks of this owl, which in the capital city nests exclusively on the Cemovsko Field. This figure demonstrates the exceptional richness of the Cemovsko Field and one of the densest populations of the little eagle in the area.

In addition to the young owl census, participants also had the opportunity to learn more about the birds of the Cemovsko Field, the last steppe in Montenegro. This gave them the chance to see and hear some of the most interesting birds in Montenegro.

With this initiative, the Centre for the Protection and Study of Birds continues its successful collaboration with the Montenegrin Transmission System, for the third year running. Over the past two years, in collaboration with CZIP, we have installed numerous special nesting boxes for birds of prey on high-voltage pylons to support the grey falcon population. This year, we have opted for a scientific research project that is accessible to citizens and children, in order to popularise research into charismatic species, which are also excellent indicators of nature conservation, whose population trend monitoring is of the utmost importance for identifying and protecting important habitats, such as the Cemovo Field (IBA – Important Bird Area, and IPA – Important Plant Area).
