CGES and Terna Reinforce Strategic Partnership in Addressing Emerging Energy Challenges

A delegation of Terna S.p.A. paid a working visit to CGES, as part of the ongoing and intensive cooperation between the two long-standing partners in the development of regional electricity infrastructure. The visit marks a continuation of high-level dialogue focused on strategic planning, operational coordination, and a unified response to the evolving challenges facing the energy sector..

Today's strategically very important meeting was opened by the Minister of Energy and Mining, Admir Šahmanović, who wished the participants a successful and productive discussion, expressing his confidence that the conclusions will contribute to further strengthening cooperation and the development of the energy sector.

The Chairman of the CGES Board of Directors, Aleksandar Mijušković, and the Executive Director, Ivan Asanović, welcomed the Terna delegation led by Maria Rosaria Guarniere, Executive Vice President for Engineering and Project Execution and Deputy Chair of the Board of Directors, and Nicoletta Buonomo, Executive Vice President for Internal Audit and member of the Board of Directors of CGES, expressing their satisfaction with the continuation of the intensive and significant cooperation between the two companies. In their opening remarks, they emphasized that the CGES–Terna partnership stands as a model of responsible, forward-looking regional cooperation in the energy sector and wished for a productive and constructive meeting.

The meeting brought together senior leadership from both companies, underscoring the strategic importance of the partnership.

The working sessions included directors of key sectors, who addressed critical topics through expert presentations and discussions. These included the implementation of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), market coupling, regulatory harmonization, system technical stability, and coordination of activities within ENTSO-E.

Participants also discussed the deployment of smart technologies and modern asset management practices, enhancements to safety standards in substation operations, and progress on major infrastructure projects — notably the commissioning of the shunt reactor at the Lastva substation and further advancement of the Trans-Balkan Corridor. Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring system reliability, regulatory alignment, and long-term investment planning.

On behalf of CGES, a valuable contribution was made by the heads of departments: Ranko Redžić (NDC), Dragan Perunović (Development and Investment Department), Leda Minić (Power Transmission), Branka Mićović (ICT Department), Milena Milatović (Finance and Economic Department), Milica Deretić (Regulatory, Legal and International Cooperation Department), as well as Nikola Mugoša, Assistant Director of Power Transmission, and Aleksa Knežević, Head of Executive Director Office.

CGES and Terna once again reaffirmed that their cooperation extends beyond operational collaboration and represents a strategic alliance dedicated to building a stable, integrated, and resilient regional electricity system. Through coordinated action, knowledge exchange, and alignment with European standards, the two companies continue to play a vital role in strengthening energy security and supporting a sustainable future for Southeast Europe.
