The Montenegrin electricity transmission system participated in a charity dinner organised by the Association of Parents of Children with Childhood Cancer "Phoenix Montenegro" and the Clinical Centre of Montenegro, thereby once again demonstrating our humanitarianism in action and our sensitivity towards the youngest patients.
Appreciating the mission of the 'Fenix' association, primarily dedicated to children suffering from this serious illness, but also to their parents and guardians, CGES has made its contribution to ensure that children battling this dreadful disease have better conditions for their treatment.
The money is earmarked for the renovation of six flats in the Department of Paediatric Haematology and the adaptation of the space for treating children with cancer, and 31,100 EUR was raised from 36 institutions and businesses at the charity dinner.
The president of the Fenix association, Dijana Stojanović, said that the association was founded on 15 February 2013, on the World Day of Children with Cancer and those who have been treated for it.
The founders are parents of five children treated for cancer, three of whom were successfully cured and two of whom passed away. The aim of the association is to bring together parents of children undergoing treatment, parents whose children have successfully completed treatment, and parents who have lost a child to malignancy, and through mutual support and joint action to help the children affected by the disease," Stojanović explained.
She pointed out that the current situation regarding the conditions for the hospital accommodation of children with cancer is unsatisfactory.
"Children with cancer in Montenegro are being treated and staying with other children, which exposes their bodies, already ravaged by the disease and chemotherapy, to all other illnesses and infections, due to the lack of a proper isolation facility," Stojanović pointed out.
She pointed out that to resolve this issue, Fenix Montenegro and KCCG had agreed to renovate part of the Paediatric Department and adapt the space for treating children with cancer.
Stojanović thanked all the institutions, organisations and individuals who recognised the importance and necessity of this initiative and, on behalf of the Fenix association, presented certificates of appreciation to the donors.
