Today's meeting at Villa Gorica, in addition to the Minister of Energy and Mining, Mr Admir Šahmanović, the Minister of Public Works, Majda Adžović, and the Masdar team, was attended by the CEO of CGES, Ivan Asanović, the Director of the Sector for Development and Investments, Dragan Perunović, as well as representatives of Elektroprivreda Crne Gore, were also present to continue discussions on the concreteisation of cooperation and on projects that are a top priority for the Government of Montenegro and which could be of mutual interest in the future.
Minister Šahmanović stated that Montenegro is strategically and long-term building its position as a reliable and competitive player in the European energy market, emphasising that the development of energy infrastructure and renewable energy sources is among the key state priorities.
The Executive Director of CGES, Ivan Asanović, emphasised the importance of upgrading the transmission network as a key prerequisite for the integration of new green energy sources and a reliable connection to the electricity system. He emphasised that CGES is actively coordinating plans with national energy companies to ensure the stable, sustainable and efficient development of the sector.
The interlocutors agreed that the announced construction of a second submarine cable to Italy represents an extremely wise and strategically oriented investment, which secures a stronger and more stable position for Montenegro in the European electricity market. The vision of Montenegro as an energy hub is fully aligned with the development plans of the Government of Montenegro. Representatives of EPCG, Executive Director Zdravko Dragaš and Director of the Development and Investments Sector, Ivan Mrvaljević, stressed that the development of green energy is the highest priority for the national energy company.
The Masdar delegation expressed its readiness for their expert teams to continue technical talks with the management of CGES and Elektroprivreda Crne Gore, with the aim of identifying priority and mature projects for joint implementation.
Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of coordinating and aligning the plans of national energy companies, in order to ensure the stable, sustainable and efficient development of the energy sector.
Solar projects, including floating solar power plants, battery energy storage systems, as well as the development of hydropower, in which Masdar has significant engineering and technical experience, have been identified as areas of particular interest.
The speakers agreed that the focus should be placed on projects that are the most technically mature, environmentally friendly, and aligned with the development of the electricity grid, in order to ensure their sustainable and efficient implementation.
The meeting was also attended by the State Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Mining, Dino Tutundžić, the Director of the Sector for OIE Projects at EPCG, Bojan Đorđan, and on behalf of the company Masdar – Ahmed Al Awadhi, Husain Al Meer, John Tamaresis, the Director of the Development Sector for Europe, and Panos Manos.
