Mijušković warmly welcomed the Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Mr Varhelyi, and emphasised the importance of this energy facility, as well as the importance of investments in the electricity transmission network. The power plant we have visited today is an important example and part of a much bigger picture, supported by EU institutions and Member States through the 'Team Europe' approach,' said Commissioner Várhelyi.
The Commissioner expressed the EU's support for Montenegro's commitment to further strengthening its national energy grid.
"The EU expects the Government of Montenegro to swiftly proceed with the adoption of the spatial plan which will enable the completion of the domestic energy grid and its connection to the grid of Serbia by 2027," said Várhelyi.
Commissioner Várhelyi highlighted the long-standing support the EU provides to Montenegro in terms of capacity building and investment in the energy and environment sectors, confirming the EU's commitment to providing assistance through the accession process and beyond.
