Prime Minister Dushko Marković He received the management of the Italian company 'Terna', led by the Chief Executive Officer. Luigi Ferrari (Luigi Ferraris), on the successful completion of work on the submarine power cable project connecting Montenegro and Italy.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Economy Dragica Sekulić, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Montenegrin Electricity Transmission System Vesna Bracanović and the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to Montenegro, Luka Celioli (Luca Zelioli).
Prime Minister Marković and Director Ferrari noted that the subsea power cable, as a result of the partnership between the governments of Montenegro and Italy, brings our country complete energy security, makes it a regional energy hub, and represents a new form of infrastructural connectivity between the Balkans and the European Union.
"This historic project is the best example of how vision and cooperation lead to new value from which both countries and our citizens will benefit, not only our generation but future generations as well," said Prime Minister Marković, comparing the project in importance to the construction of our first motorway.
It was noted at the meeting that the undersea power cable, as a result of the partnership between the governments of Montenegro and Italy, brings our country complete energy security, makes it a regional energy hub, and represents a new form of infrastructural connectivity between the Balkans and the European Union.
The Chief Executive Officer of Terna informed the Prime Minister that the submarine cable between Montenegro and Italy, with a total length of 445 km, of which 423 km is the submarine section, is worth 1.15 billion euros, and that during the cable-laying operation to date it has already generated numerous positive effects in Montenegro. "This project, the largest of its kind in the Mediterranean, has already generated local business here worth more than €60 million," said the director of Terne, adding that 120 people are employed on the project in Montenegro in various ways.
Prime Minister Marković informed the management of Terna that several countries of Eastern and Southeastern Europe have already expressed serious interest in concluding various arrangements with Montenegro for the use of the subsea energy cable's capacity, which is officially scheduled to be commissioned in the autumn.
