The last bird nesting box has been put up.

19 October 2015

Today, CGES's installers, with all the necessary equipment, completed the first phase of installing peregrine falcon nesting boxes along the route of the 400 kV 'Podgorica-Trebinje' transmission line, whose pylons are located approximately 30 kilometres from Danilovgrad towards Čevo.Based on the Memorandum of Cooperation between CGES and CZIP, which relates to working on environmentally acceptable conditions from the perspective of nesting for certain bird species, CGES has donated 30 peregrine falcon nesting boxes. In early October, to mark European Bird Watching Day, the nesting boxes were prepared and birds were ringed in the company of pupils from the ecology section of the 'Radojica Perović' Primary School, as well as pupils from other schools who came with their parents. Analysing the locations of all power lines in Montenegro before the project with CZIP began, the Montenegrin Transmission System selected a significant number of pylons suitable for nesting. Based on experience in European Union countries, pylons that are far from their usual nesting sites were taken into consideration, in order to encourage these rare birds to nest on the pylons as well. Given that the installation of the boxes is planned far from cliffs and the traditional nesting sites of these birds, it is expected that all species of falcon in Montenegro, as well as some species of owl, will nest in them. It should be recalled that a large number of artificial nests are already located on the pylons of the 220 kV 'HE Piva - Pljevlja' and 400 kV 'Podgorica-Ribarevine' power lines.
