On 23 December 2016, the Montenegrin electricity transmission system held a ceremony to mark the completion of the new 110/35/10 kV 'Kotor' substation and the commissioning of the 110 kV 'Tivat-Kotor' transmission line, thereby creating a long-term solution for the reliable and high-quality supply of electricity to the Kotor consumer area. The ceremony was held at the 'Kotor' substation in Škaljari.

The construction of the 110/35/10 kV 'Kotor' substation and the 110 kV 'Tivat-Kotor' double circuit line is a project to connect one of Montenegro's most significant tourist centres to the transmission network, which will significantly increase the security and quality of the electricity supply.
CGES managed to complete this capital project within the scheduled timeframe. With its commissioning, Kotor will receive a 110 kV voltage, which will provide a much more reliable power supply to this consumer area. The construction of the substation will also contribute to the realisation of future development projects for this municipality.
"This investment is precisely one of the key factors for the security of Kotor's power supply. What characterises this technologically modern electrical power facility, first and foremost, is the fact that it occupies less space, which makes it fit perfectly into the urban environment. The negative visual effects have also been minimised. When it comes to this substation, we also have a reduced environmental impact, which confirms that the Montenegrin Transmission System is a company with a highly developed environmental awareness, present both in the process of planning the development of the transmission network and during the regular operation and maintenance of the transmission system. In addition to reducing losses in Montenegro's electricity system, the substation will contribute to a better supply of electricity to consumers in this part of the Montenegrin coast. The expected benefits of this project also include the improvement of reactive power conditions in the Kotor area; and the easing of the load on the 110/35 kV transformers at the 'Tivat' and 'Dr.' substations. The Mayor of Kotor, Aleksandar Stjepčević, said on this occasion: "I can proudly say that from today, the people of Kotor have a more reliable and higher-quality electricity supply. The entire municipality will benefit, as the stronger and more stable power supply opens the door to new investors, for whom the improved and strengthened system will be a guarantee of secure business in our city.".
The total value of the investments amounts to six million euros. In addition to domestic resources, the construction of the 110/35 kV 'Kotor' substation was entrusted to a consortium comprising 'EuroZox' and its partners, while the 110 kV transmission line was built by 'Elnos-Podgorica' with its subcontractors.
The primary goal of CGES will continue to be the development of the transmission network in both the south and north of the country, taking into account the needs of current and future users. CGES believes that the investments it makes have a strong impact on economic activity in the country, and that the company's stability and strength have been demonstrated through all its projects to date, as well as those that are yet to be realised.
