Executive Director of the Montenegrin Electricity Transmission System, Ivan Asanović, and a representative of the wind farm "Alcazar Energy,Enrico CasariThey signed the contract for construction of the infrastructure for connecting the 'Bijela' wind farm (the 'Grid Connection Agreement'), which continues the era of renewable energy development in our country. This agreement represents a significant step towards the green transition and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The connection of this wind farm to the transmission system is a crucial step towards a more secure and efficient energy system, thereby confirming our commitment to a sustainable future and the energy transition.
The power plant will be connected to the 'Brezna' substation, located in the north-west of Montenegro, and the commercial commissioning of the plant is expected in 2027. Prior to the connection, the substation will need to be upgraded with funds provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), with which CGES previously signed a credit facility agreement.
The signing of the Grid Connection Agreement represents a very important milestone for the 'Bijela' wind farm, which was commissioned in September 2023. The signing of the Grid Connection Agreement represents a very important milestone for the 'Bijela' wind farm, which was acquired in September 2023 by Alcazar Energy (a reference company in renewable energy in emerging markets), in partnership with Simes Inženjering and Sistem MNE, the original developers of the greenfield project, and confirms Alcazar Energy's ambition to build the largest renewable energy platform in the Western Balkans.
The project, with a planned installed capacity of 118,MW, will double the installed wind power capacity in Montenegro, and is estimated to create over 800 jobs in construction, and once operational, will produce enough clean energy to power over 20,700 households annually, while avoiding the emission of over 260,000 tonnes of CO2e per year.000 tonnes of CO2e annually.
The use of wind energy is a key component in reducing the emission of harmful gases and creating a cleaner energy future. Investing in renewable sources, such as wind farms, not only contributes to environmental conservation but also reduces dependence on fossil fuels, stimulates the economy, and creates new jobs in the green energy sector.
This project emphasises our strategic focus on the modernisation and development of renewable resources.
Today's signing of this significant contract was also attended by Dragan Perunović, Director of the Sector for Development and Investments, and representatives Alcazar Energy - Marko Radulović and Dejan Milić.
