Executive Director of the Crnogorski elektroprenosni sistem, Ivan Asanovićand the representative of the wind power plant Alcazar Energy Enrico Casari, signed an agreement on the construction of infrastructure for the connection of the wind power plant Bijela (Grid Connection Agreement), thus continuing the era of development of renewable energy sources (RES), in our country. This agreement represents a significant step towards the green transition and achieving the goals of sustainable development.

Connecting this wind power plant to the transmission system is a key step towards a safer and more efficient energy system, thus confirming our commitment to a sustainable future and energy transition.

The power plant expects to reach commercial operation date in 2027 and will be connected to the substation Brezna, located in north-western Montenegro. The substation will need to be upgraded before connection, with funds covered by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), with which CGES signed a loan agreement in the previous period.

The signing of the Grid Connection Agreement is a very important milestone for the wind power plant Bijela, which was acquired by Alcazar Energy (a leading renewable energy investment manager in growth markets) in September 2023, with a partnership with Simes Inženjering and Sistem MNE, the original greenfield developers of the project, and confirms Alcazar Energy’s ambition to build the largest renewable energy platform in the Western Balkans.

The project, with 118.8 MW planned installed capacity, will double the Montenegro’s installed wind capacity, and is estimated to create over 800 construction jobs and, once in operation, produce enough clean energy to power over 20,700 households annually, while avoiding the release of over 260,000 tons of CO2e per year.

The use of wind energy is a key component in reducing the emission of harmful gases and creating a cleaner energy future. Investing in renewable sources, such as wind power plants, not only contributes to the preservation of the environment, but also reduces dependence on fossil fuels, stimulates the economy and creates new jobs in the green energy sector.

This project emphasises our strategic orientation towards modernisation and development of renewable resources.

Today's signing of this important agreement was also attended by the Director of the Development and Investment Sector, Dragan Perunović, and representatives of Alcazar Energy - Marko Radulović and Dejan Milić. .
