Substation 110/35 kV Žabljak

The construction of the 110/35 kV substation Žabljak is a project being implemented to connect Žabljak to the transmission network via the already constructed 110 kV transmission line “Pljevlja-Žabljak” and to provide connection conditions for the future 110 kV transmission line “Brezna-Žabljak.”

Until 2023, the Žabljak and Šavnik areas were supplied radially via the 35 kV transmission line Pljevlja – Žabljak, which was originally built as a 110 kV line with a 150/25 mm² shield wire. A backup supply route to Žabljak also exists from Nikšić through the long 35 kV transmission lines “Nikšić-Brezna-Šavnik-Žabljak.” Due to the dynamic development of the area as a winter tourist center, it became necessary to increase transformation capacity and provide a safer and more reliable supply to Žabljak by constructing the 110/35 kV substation and connecting it to the “Pljevlja” substation via the aforementioned line, which was operating at the 35 kV voltage level.

The benefits of implementing the project are:

– Improvement of voltage and reactive power conditions;

– Reduction of losses;

– Increased system reliability;

– Reduction of unserved energy levels.

A connection agreement for the facility was signed with CEDIS, and it was connected to the CGES transmission system on December 28, 2023. In the meantime, the remaining construction works have been nearly completed (less than 5% of construction works remain, which are expected to be finished by August 31, 2024), after which the technical inspection of the completed works and further procedures for obtaining the operating permit for the facility will continue.

The value of the investment is €4.8 million, and the planned completion date is 2024.
