SS 110/35 kV Žabljak

The construction of SS 110/35 kV Žabljak is a project that is being implemented to connect Žabljak to the transmission network via the already built OHL 110 kV Pljevlja - Žabljak and to provide conditions for the connection of the future OHL 110 kV Brezna - Žabljak.

Until 2023, the area of Žabljak and Šavnik was fed radially via the 35 kV overhead line Pljevlja - Žabljak, which was constructed as a 110 kV overhead line with a wire having a cross-section of 150/25 mm2. To power Žabljak, there is also a backup power supply direction from Nikšić via the long 35 kV overhead lines Nikšić - Brezna - Šavnik - Žabljak. Due to the dynamic development of that area as a winter tourist centre, it was necessary to increase the capacity in the transformation and provide a more secure and reliable power supply to Žabljak by constructing SS 110/35 kV and connecting it to SS Pljevlja via the mentioned overhead line, which operated at 35 kV voltage level.

The benefits of project implementation are:

– Improvement of voltage - reactive conditions;

– Loss reduction;

– Increase of system reliability and;

– Reduction of unserved energy levels.

An agreement on the connection of the facility was concluded with CEDIS, and the facility was connected to Montenegro's electric power system on 28 December 2023. In the meantime, the remaining construction works have almost been completed (less than 5% of construction works remain, which are expected to be completed by 31 August 2024), after which the technical inspection of the performed works and the further procedure for obtaining a permit for the permanent operation of the facility in question will continue.

The investment value is 4.8 million euros, and the planned completion date is 2024.
