To mark 110 years of the development of the electricity sector in Montenegro, the Montenegrin Transmission System organised a symbolic ceremony at the 'Lastva' substation. The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Duško Marković, the Minister of Economy, Dragica Sekulić, as well as the President of the Municipality of Kotor, Željko Aprcović.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister called our 'Lastva' substation the heart of Montenegro's energy sector, assessing that Montenegro has become the energy hub of south-eastern Europe, a link between the Balkan and Italian peninsulas, and a regional leader in the integration of renewable energy sources.
"Montenegro was among the first in Europe to keep pace with new trends in energy, and thanks to this, the Montenegrin energy sector is ready to take on the role of one of the strongest drivers of economic recovery from the effects of the new coronavirus pandemic," Marković stressed.
Speaking about the 'Lastva' substation, the Prime Minister described the strategic partnership with one of the largest energy companies in Europe, the Italian company Terna, as very successful and significant.
When the goal is clear and the benefit is mutual, the presence of a foreign investor is a most welcome factor in modernisation and development. That is why today, in this facility built with the best available techniques, worth 35 million euros, we are also witnessing that our people are capable of meeting deadlines, and that compromises with the valuable and limited space of our coastline are possible, that the challenges of difficult terrain are solvable, and that goals must be set ambitiously," said Marković.
The Chairwoman of the CGES Board of Directors, Vesna Bracanović, emphasised that the Submarine Cable, the 'Lastva' substation and the Lastva-Čevo and Čevo-Pljevlja transmission lines project is one of the largest projects in the European transmission network, and has been declared a project of significance for the European Union and the Energy Community.
According to her, the positive effects of the construction of the 'Lastva' transformer substation were particularly felt during the previous summer. tourist seasons.
The Montenegrin coast is primarily powered from the 'Lastva' substation, while the electricity system, with the construction of this facility and the Lastva Čevo 110 kV line, has achieved a higher level of stability and operational reliability. This makes a significant contribution to creating the conditions for the performance and improvement of of business in Montenegro, but also for the continuation of the construction of large tourist capacities," said Bracanović.
The 'Lastva' substation was built to the highest technical, technological and environmental standards, and with the planned planting of around 2,000 olive trees on the land around the substation, CGES will continue its commitment to environmental protection and further enhance the area.
"CGES will continue its significant investment activities in the period ahead, with the aim of ensuring that the citizens of Montenegro and the entire economy continue to have a secure and high-quality supply of electricity," Bracanović said.
