Crnogorski elektroprenosni sistem organised on 28 December a ceremony on the occasion of the completion of the new substation 110/10 kV “Nikšić 2“ and entry into operation of 110 kV cable line. This significant investments in the city under the Trebjesa Hill will create preconditions for an economic and social development, as well as installation of other infrastructure projects. The ceremony was held in substation “Nikšić 2”.

The significance of construction of this substation, closed switchgear, according to the latest GIS technology is principally reflected in a more secure and quality electricity supply of consumers of Nikšić.

"In keeping with our mission to develop the transmission network in a way that ensuresTo have a reliable transmission system with sufficient capacity and unimpeded access for all users, we began preparing for this demanding project three years ago, both technically and financially. I would like to remind you that the overall project involved the construction of a 110/10 kV substation, with a capacity of 2×31.5 MVA, a 110-kilovolt cable from Kličevo to Željezara which connects the substation to the existing transmission network, as well as the construction of a transmission line field at the Nikšić substation. Due to spatial planning constraints and the fact that these facilities were built in an urban area, and following the best European practice in the construction of similar facilities, the technical solutions applied have a minimal negative impact on the environment and people, which was one of our main goals. Specifically, this substation was constructed using GIS technology and the entire switchgear is housed within a building, which is a significantly better solution than the conventional one in terms of space conservation and visual amenity. "Furthermore, instead of a standard overhead high-voltage line, we installed a four-kilometre high-voltage cable, thereby preserving valuable space in the city centre for another purpose," said Dragan Laketić, Chairman of the CGES Board of Directors.

Installed apparatus and equipment are products of renowned European companies ABB and Prysmian, and works have been performed by local companies Volvox, Bemax and Energomontaža with partners. The total value of investment is over 9,5 million €.

Veselin Grbović, the Mayor of Nikšić, has expressed his great satisfaction on the occasion of the completion of another substation by which the Montenegrin grid has been enhanced: “First of all, I would like to thank to Crnogorski elektroprenosni sistem for one of the biggest investments implemented in the last few years in Nikšić, in the amount of 11 million €. The old substation constructed in 1957 did not ensure a secure electricity supply of Nikšić. By constructing this substation, and reconstructing the existing one, Nikšić will solve its capital problems.”

Besides this project, because of which they are very proud in CGES, since this is the first time they constructed a substation in GIS technology and 110 kV cable as a whole, CGES is implementing also another project that is also very specific and demanding, and that is reconstruction and replacement of equipment in the mentioned, and oldest, substation in Montenegro located next to Steelworks Nikšić. After completing planned works, the facility will be completely reconstructed which together with the substation will greatly change the image of supply of consumers from the grid in Nikšić.

One of the segments of this reconstruction has been recently completed – replacement of transformer that has been in operation of almost 60 years with a new 40 MVA transformer. The value of works (performed by the company Elnos Podgorica) on replacement of the transformer is 800,000 €, and the value of other works related to reconstruction is about 700,000 €, meaning that CGES in these two investments in Nikšić invested in total 11 million €. The result of such investment is new 73 MVA of capacity from the gird, which is an increase about 80% compared to the present transformation capacity. euro, and the total value of the other works relating to the reconstruction is around 700,000 euro, which means that CGES has invested a total of 11 million euros in these two investments in Nikšić. The result of this investment is a new 73MVA capacity from the transmission network, which is an increase of almost 80% compared to the previous transformer capacity.

“We believe that with the almost completed investment in Kotor, these investments in Nikšić and yet a series of investment in progress, we have proved the multi-annual orientation of Crnogorski elektroprenosni sistem towards development and investment activities. Despite the complex environment in which we have been operating in the last few years, we have a permanent growth of implemented investments on yearly level, which in 2016 reached the amount of a record 30 million €. The total value of implemented investments in the previous seven years, since CGES has been operating as an independent commercial entity, amounts to imposing 112 million €”, Laketić has underlined.
