Digitally strong and power-secure Montenegro
Three key electric power companies of Montenegro Crnogorski elektroprenosni sistem (CGES),Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG) and the Montenegrin Electricity Distribution System (CEDIS), have signed Letter of intent formalising the start of strategic cooperation on the project to build a Consolidated Data Centre (KDC).This initiative represents a significant step towards the digital transformation of the Montenegrin electric power system and the creation of a modern information hub.
With this partnership, CGES, EPCG and CEDIS jointly invest resources and knowledge to create a technologically advanced system for data management and digital services. The Consolidated data centre will be located in the industrial complex of Željezara Nikšić (Ironworks Nikšić), in areas already designated for this purpose. In addition to the primary role in the modernisation of electric power companies, the possibility of commercial use of CDC capacity for the needs of other institutions and companies is also being considered.
The Executive Director of CGES, Ivan Asanovićemphasised the importance of a modern data centre for the stability of the electricity transmission network.
“Through this project, not only would the assumptions be created to raise our digitalised processes to a significantly higher level, but we would have a system that would enable more efficient management of electric power resources at the level of the entire country. The Consolidated Data Centre represents a strong step forward in the modernisation of the sector and ensures a better connection of all key participants in the electric power system. I believe that this project, with adequate support and strategic commitment of all participants, will bring specific benefits and further strengthen the security and reliability of the electric power network of Montenegro", Asanović pointed out.
Executive Director of EPCG Ivan Bulatović said that this project confirms the common vision and determination to position Montenegro as a technologically advanced country..
““The Consolidated Data Centre is not just an infrastructure project - it is the basis of digital transformation that will enable more precise data analysis, greater efficiency in decision-making and a more secure electric power system” , Bulatović pointed out.
Executive Director of CEDIS Vladimir Ivanović He emphasised the importance of cooperation between key Montenegrin energy entities, as well as support for other businesses.
“The consolidated Data Centre will enable better coordination between companies, reduction of operating costs and improvement of IT infrastructure. This is an investment that brings long-term value for the power sector and the Montenegrin economy", Ivanović stated.
The signatories have already launched the first activities – the preparations. of a feasibility study that will define the technical and economic parameters of the project. Based on its results, a separate Agreement that will specify the next steps in the implementation of the CDC will be adopted.
CGES, EPCG and CEDIS continue with strategic investments in the modernisation of Montenegrin power industry - for a more stable, secure and digitally advanced electric power system!
