The modernization and reconstruction of the substations in the Montenegrin coast enters its final phase

Works in the coastal region, which continued in 2021, mark the steady progress in the last phase of modernization and reconstruction of five coastal substations.

Securing the adequate infrastructure in this part of the country is one of Montenegro’s strategic priorities, given its contribution to successful development of tourism and economy thus ensuring better living standard for its citizens.

The existing transmission system in the coastal area, although developed, required modernization to increase its stability, especially during the tourist season which is of utmost importance given the growing number of consumers. In addition, modern equipment - due to its higher energy efficiency, extends its lifetime and reduces maintenance costs.

The completion of works, scheduled for the beginning of summer, will improve energy reliability for businesses and residential customers in this area, and facilitate preparation of this year’s tourist season through providing quality and uninterrupted electricity supply.

The implementation of 'Trans-Balkan Electricity Corridor (I) - Grid Section in Montenegro - Part II’ project is being supported by the European Union. The EU has allocated EUR25 million under the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) for works and supplies, while the grant is being distributed through the German development bank (KfW).
